What is the admission criteria for JEM Treatment, Inc.?
JEM Treatment does not discriminate based on race, religion or sexual orientation. Typically, a person seeking our services must be 18 years of age or older.  An exception would be an individual who is 17 years of age, with parental consent and two failed attempts at abstinence within a 12-month period.

Is treatment confidential?
Yes. Your services will be confidential and can only be released with a signed waiver of consent.

Is methadone safe?
When taken as prescribed, methadone is very safe and will not cause any damage to the body or brain.

Is methadone addictive?
The term “addiction” refers to the loss of control over drug use or other behaviors such as eating or gambling, with resulting social, health and family difficulties. Methadone-maintained patients are in control of their daily medication and noted improvement is seen in their daily social and family lives.

Why do people use methadone detox?
Methadone maintenance has been effectively used for treating opioid dependency for over 40 years. It is one of the most researched substance abuse treatment alternatives, which has also resulted in methadone being the most medically and psychologically researched drug to date.

Isn’t treatment with Methadone just substituting one addictive drug for another?
There are major differences between the use of illegal heroin use and medically administered methadone. Heroin lasts 4-6 hours and used in ever-increasing doses by dangerous injection, snorting or smoking. Methadone lasts 24 to 36 hours and is swallowed safely as a liquid. 95% of heroin users admit to criminal behavior to obtain money to buy drugs. Participants in abstinence-oriented programs were much more likely to fail and return to drug use. Participants in methadone maintenance programs were statistically significantly more likely to stay in treatment and had lower rates of drug use and reduced criminal behavior.
